Lubbock police searching for bank robbery suspect

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock police are searching for a robbery suspect who escaped after taking an undisclosed amount of money from First United Bank at 98th & Indiana.

Police say he handed the teller a note demanding money. The note indicated that he had a weapon.

The suspect is described as about 5'7, between 160-180 pounds, white male, between 40 and 50 years old, clean-shaven, in dark blue jeans, a black baseball hat and a dark colored pull-over.

Witnesses say the suspect had a deformity on his bottom lip and a deformity on his left hand. He appeared to be holding his left hand as if he couldn't use it.

Police warn that this suspect could have a weapon, although he never showed one.

Police have also released pictures of the suspect vehicle. 

Police say, "It appears to be a darker color, GMC or Chevrolet Z71 model, 4 door, pickup. It also appears to have a black tool box in the bed."

Lubbock Cooper campuses were briefly put on lockdown during the search. Central Elementary, Cooper North Elementary, All Saints and Laura Bush Middle School were eventually given the all clear.

Lubbock police are asking people to avoid the area.
