Officer injured when van crashes into police car

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A Lubbock police officer very well might be lucky to be alive Monday morning.  Two officers responded to a minor accident at 19th and Memphis just after 1:00 am.

One of the officers was talking to a woman near his squad car. And that's when the driver of a van plowed into the police cruiser. The officer pushed the woman out of the way to keep her safe.  But he suffered serious injuries.

The woman got a few bumps and bruises but officers at the scene thought she would be okay. The driver of the van was taken into custody for DWI.  No names were released at the scene.
