The same storm system that caused damage in Amarillo also brought high winds and hail to the South Plains Monday night.
Winds up to 60 mph and golf-ball size hail pounded Floyd County. Dan Smith is a farmer with crops just North of Lockney. He says the storms destroyed most of his cotton and corn crops.
"This time yesterday it was about six foot tall and as you can see now it's about one foot tall," said Floyd County farmer, Dan Smith, as he looked at his corn crops.
Smith says this is the third year in a row hail has destroyed his crops. He will plant grain sorghum to try and make some sort of profit this season.
