LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Army Sgt. Joshua Taylor has served in the military for the past 12 years, having enlisted from Coronado High School. During his time in the Army, he has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is currently in Germany.
KCBD NewsChannel 11 spoke with his 9-year-old daughter, Sydnee, who says her daddy is more than just a Hometown Hero - she says he is her hero.
When KCBD caught up with Sydnee, she was on the telephone with her daddy, giving him a pep talk.
"I know you can do it and you know you can do it. You have faith!" Sydnee said to her dad.
Sydnee, who is a third grader, is wise beyond her years. Perhaps she gets that from her daddy. Though he is deployed to Germany, this isn't the first time his duty has called him away from home.
"He has gone through Afghanistan, gone through Iraq. He is going through Germany right now," Sydnee said.
Sydnee hasn't seen her father since last Summer. Because of the long distance, phone calls are extra special to her. In between the phone calls, Sydnee holds tight to Maximus, a teddy bear her father gave her.
Sydnee admits there are times when she gets sad, but she always tries to remind herself that her daddy is brave.
"I'm really proud," Sydnee said. "He has been in the Army for more than a few years and I really miss him, but I know he's saving us. So that's more important than seeing him."
