For the first time, a study has developed a timeline for smokers...and the big number is 10 years.
In other words, a life of smoking means facing death 10 years earlier than if they had chosen a life without cigarettes.
It's been 50 years since British researchers published the first study firmly linking cigarette smoking to lung cancer. Ironically, it's the same research institute that has come up with this timeline, after following more than 35,00 men since that first study 50 years ago.
