In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDtalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) is an annual conference held since 1984 in California. TED's motto--ideas, worth spreading—gathers scientists, businessmen, politicians, artists, musicians and engineers on one stage. The speakers share much in common: bright ideas, undisputed influence in their respected fields of activity and the ability to talk about sophisticated things in a simple manner. TED videos are being distributed freely through TED.com and since 2009, independent TED conferences called TEDx are being held internationally.
