Monday's swift and heavy rainfall was just one example of the many challenges that face West Texas farmers. Mother nature can be cruel, and picking up the pieces... expensive.
To fight back, Congressman Randy Neugebauer unveiled new legislation at a local farm Monday afternoon that he says will help bolster crop insurance. "Ag is big business and one of the things as we've gone around to a lot of town hall meetings and we've met with produce guys. One of the things that they kept telling us is that we don't have good, adequate, crop insurance programs available to us and so this is a first step today, introducing a new program that will help manage the risk better and hopefully provide a tool for our producers to run their farms like businesses.
The "Risk Management Enhancement Act" allows farmers to stack area-based coverage on their individual policies.
