Lockney resident Edward Delgado Hernandez, 50, was arrested in Lockney and taken to the Hale County Jail on Saturday where he was charged with murder.

Floyd County Sheriff chief deputy Cody Speed says they received a 911 call shortly before 2a.m. on Saturday from Hernandez wanting to turn himself in. When Lockney police officers and sheriff's deputies arrived they found Kechi Diaz, 25, murdered in Hernandez's kitchen.

Speed says they arrested Hernandez on the spot and charged him with Diaz's murder. Right now there are few details they can release about the murder, but authorities believe Diaz and Hernandez could possibly have been dating.

Diaz's brother says he isn't sure if the two were dating but that Diaz knew Hernandez after they had worked together for a while in Plainview.

Hernandez is currently at the Hale County Jail in Plainview on a $500,000 bond. Texas Rangers are now helping with investigation.

According to Texas DPS, Hernandez is a registered sex offender after he was convicted of sexual assault of a seven-year-old back in 1986.

A memorial fund has been set up at First Convenience Bank under Kechi Diaz memorial fund. Donations will help pay for funeral expenses and to help Diaz's four children.

KCBD NewsChannel 11 sat down with the victim's family on the murder, and how they're coping with the death of their loved one. You can watch that emotional story tonight at 10p.m.
