Dog may be a man's best friend, but every year, there are about 800 thousand dog bites that require medical attention in this country. So remember theses prevention tips. If you meet a dog for the first time, the most important thing to remember is give it some space. When the dog comes to you, turn to the side so you appear less threatening. Keep your hand in a fist and hold your hand down, so the dog can sniff your fist. When you are getting to know a dog, don't stare in its eyes. Pet the animal on the back of the neck or on his back and not on the top of the head. Always try not to run from a dog or scream. If you do get knocked over, roll into a ball, lie still, and cover your head.
