Picking perfect pumpkins at the Ritchey Pumpkin Patch

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

If you need the perfect pumpkin, why not go to the source? There's nothing like going to a pumpkin patch and picking out your very own pumpkin, right where it was grown.

With more than seven acres of pumpkins and some 15 varieties to choose from, the Ritchey Pumpkin Patch at 6000 34th Street is one of many places Lubbockites are visiting to find their perfect festival canvas.

But it's not all about decoration.

Josh Ritchey of the Ritchey Farms Pumpkin Patch says some pumpkins are best used to compliment those delicious holiday recipes.

"We sell a Cinderella Pumpkin which is a flat pumpkin with ribs on it - kind of squatty - what you would think of when Cinderella went to the ball. I've been told it's the best pumpkin for making pies," Ritchey said.

The Ritchey Pumpkin Patch is open from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. through Halloween.

Pumpkins range from $6 to $10 dollars.
