Pit Bull fans celebrate 1st annual Awareness Day

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Animal lovers of all kinds gathered at the Buddy Holly Recreation Park Saturday for Pit Bull Awareness Day.

The rescue offered free vaccinations and microchipping for the dogs.

Visitors participated in the nationwide "Bully Walk" at 5 p.m. to show off their love for the breed.

The event featured booths from Haven Animal Care Shelter, Patrick John's Animal Rescue, City of Lubbock Animal Services, Heart of the Plains Kennel Club and PetSmart.

The event also offered three showings of "Beyond the Myth" on Friday: 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

But even if you couldn't make it out, your help is still very much needed.

Saving Grace Pit Bull Rescue Volunteer Jessica Bolen said, "If you can't donate financially you can donate your time we're always looking for volunteers."
