A group of shoppers living with diabetes took part in a grocery store tour on Saturday, courtesy of United Supermarkets and the American Diabetes Association.
Shoppers were given nutrition tips and shown the best way to shop for their disease - tips like introducing more fiber in the diet, eliminating excess salt, and learning about certain types of harmful fat.
NuVal is a nutritional value scoring system that helps consumers learn about the nutritional value of the food they buy.
Jennifer Gorman is the Wellness Manager for United Supermarkets. "We like to teach NuVal as well. We have NuVal at every store. At every United Supermarket, Market Street and Amigos we definitely talk about NuVal because the higher the score, the better the nutrition."
