High speed motorcycle chase ends in crash

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock DPS troopers say 27-year-old Marcus Thorton is in critical condition after a high speed motorcycle chase.

Corporal John Gonzalez says a trooper tried to pull Thorton over near 50th and Avenue P because the motorcycle's registration was expired. Thorton then sped off going toward Slaton on Highway 84 hitting speeds between 80 and 100 miles per hour.

Thorton then turned westbound on Woodrow road, but lost control of the motorcycle and flipped several times throwing him off the bike. Thorton was wearing a helmet, but he was air lifted to the hospital with critical injuries.

Gonzalez says the motorcycle was stolen from a Texas Tech student, but they're not sure when it was actually stolen. He also says this is the third motorcycle chase DPS has dealt with over the last few weeks.
