While patients have been a priority, some New York City hospitals are now trying to salvage the research that may have been damaged in super-storm Sandy. More than 200 patients were evacuated after a major power failure at New York University Medical Center earlier this week. The lack of power damaged or destroyed many lab tissue samples, which were left to thaw when the refrigerators and freezers stopped working. That's tragic and loses years of study in the research of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. A lot of lab animals ended up in a flooded basement, and 2,500 mice under study were killed by the storm waters.
