37 Lubbock voting centers open on Election Day

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Voters heading out for the big day tomorrow can visit any one of the 37 voting centers in town. During the primary election, voters had to report to specific precinct centers. However, on election day, any voting center will do.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are working during that time, Texas state law will cover you. The law allows employees to take paid time off for voting on election days.

Early voter turnout went down 10 percent from the last presidential election in 2008. Lubbock County Election administrator Dorothy Kennedy says that is because there is not a lot of local races on the ballot this year.

"We only have that county commissioner three and constable three and then we have county commissioner one. Those are the only local things we really have on the ballots. Everything else is state and federal up."

Over four-hundred election workers will be at the various voting centers to help with the process.

Citibus is offering free bus rides to and from the polls tomorrow for those who provide their voter registration card. Citibus is trying to eliminate lack of transportation as a reason for people not to vote. The buses will travel on their usual fixed routes and the CitiAccess service is available for those with disabilities.

KCBD's First Alert Forecast call for a very pleasant election day. It will be chilly in the early morning, temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Then warming up in the afternoon with highs in the 70s and 80s, light winds and sunny skies.

Sun will rise at 7:11 a.m. and set at 5:50 p.m.

To find a list of voting center locations, text your zip code to 75044.
