Weather Disrupts Fireworks Show

Lubbock's Fourth on Broadway celebration was interrupted by bursts of lightning and rain Sunday evening.

The weather forced organizers to rush the fireworks celebration, but most fireworks were set off, except for two big cannons that were supposed to end the show.

Teresa Vitel, Fourth on Broadway Chairperson says, "When we realized the storm actually hit, Don Caldwell made a decision to cut some numbers and the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra started up and the fireworks got started early and that's what we did."

Despite the early ending Lubbockites we spoke with say the show was a great one. "It was just wonderful. We heard so many wonderful comments about the concert, the symphony orchestra and the fireworks extravaganza. It's only in Lubbock, Texas."

Meanwhile, Vitel says the planning for next year's event is already well-underway.
