Organizers Call Parade & Street Fair a Success

The skies were sunny and clear as the Fourth on Broadway celebration got underway on Saturday morning.

The festivities began with a parade down Broadway. Lubbockites lined the streets to get a glimpse of the patriotic displays. There were troops with flags, kids with flags, and even a few familiar faces.

Whether groups chose to walk, ride or "float" down Broadway, there were some that wowed the judges. Christian Life won first place in the non-commercial category. SBC Telcom Pioneers took first place honors for best commercial group. Univision KBZO Channel 51 won best band. Tega was the first place winner in the children's category. Tech-Terrace Unit Neighborhood Association was the best walking group. Rounding up the list of first place winners was the Mexican Heritage Charro Riders in the animal category.

Organizers estimate 135,000 people attended this year's parade and street fair.
