Plainview man charged with the murder of his wife and unborn child
PLAINVIEW, TX (KCBD) -
A Plainview man is charged with murder after a deadly crash killed his wife and their unborn child Sunday night.
Plainview police arrived at the scene around 6 p.m. to find a Pontiac Grand-Am wrapped around a utility pole and a Chevrolet pick-up truck partially on top of it.
Witnesses say 25-year-old Juan Castaneda was seen ramming his truck into Vivianna Castaneda's car multiple times while they were traveling Southbound on North Columbia. His wife then lost control of the car and hit the pole.
"The young lady who died was out of the vehicle. I don't know if she was thrown out or if her husband had pulled her out of the vehicle," Susan Rivera said who witnessed the chase. "The top of the car was crushed in, and there was a child in there. We didn't know how old the child was, but we could hear him screaming. It was just complete chaos"
The couple's son, Zameer Castaneda, 5, was trapped in the car, along with 25-year old Vanessa Garcia, Vivianna's sister.
"She was conscience at the time of the accident," Rivera said about Vivianna. "People kept trying to calm her down because she was trying to get back into the car to help her child."
All four individuals were transported to Lubbock hospitals. Vivianna and her unborn child were pronounced dead at the hospital. Right now, Zameer Castaneda is in critical condition and Vanessa Garcia is in fair condition at Covenant Hospital.
Juan Castaneda was charged with murder as soon as he was released from the hospital, Monday afternoon. He was taken to the Hale County Jail. Alcohol could have been a factor in the accident as well.
