LISD mourns loss of two educators

David Wragg, age 32, passed away on November 3 after a three-year battle with cancer. He taught art at Overton and Wheatley Elementary Schools, where he was loved and admired by students and staff. Students at Overton Elementary established a memorial wall at the school to honor Mr. Wragg. A memorial service for Wragg will be today, Wednesday, November 7, at 3 p.m. at First Christian Church, 2323 Broadway, in Lubbock. He is survived by his wife Katie and daughter Alexis. The family has set up accounts for art education to benefit Wheatley Elementary and Overton Elementary Schools in honor of Mr. Wragg. Donations can be directed to the Finance Office at Lubbock ISD, 1628 19th Street, or call 766-1070.

Reese Fleming, Monterey High School teacher and defensive coordinator for the varsity football team, passed away on November 5 after a brief illness. He was 46 and in his first year with Lubbock ISD. He leaves behind a wife and child. The Monterey High vs. Lubbock High football game on Friday, November 9, will include a moment of silence in honor of Coach Fleming and both teams will wear tribute seals on their helmets.

Services for Reese Fleming will be on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at the South Plains Church of Christ, 6802 Elkhart Ave. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 9 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd Street. The Reese Fleming Memorial Fund, to benefit the Fleming family, has been established at all PlainsCapital Bank locations in Lubbock.
