The U.S. Army is calling up more than 5,600 soldiers and it looks like Lubbock soldiers from two branches of the military will be part of that deployment.
At least 16 Marine Reservists from Lubbock received their orders Wednesday to deploy to Iraq. Soldiers from the National Guard are also expected to be called to duty as well. The date of their departure has not yet been determined.
Just last week, the U.S. turned power of Iraq to the Iraqi Council and promised to send in additional troops.
