Lubbock family reunites after 64 years

Posted: Updated:

Paul Trevino is very family oriented, something that he believes comes from childhood. His birth father left the family when he was very young, leaving his mom with a trouble causing, angry boy to take care of. Eventually she couldn't take it and asked his godfather for help and he did exactly that. He took Paul under his wing, raising him, and caring for him as if Paul were his first born son. This changed Paul's life dramatically and also gave him a full family of brothers and sisters. However one sister was missing.

"I remember dad always talking about him," said Trevino, "but I didn't understand when I was so young."

His father was talking about Olivia, a daughter he fathered while stationed in Germany after WWII. Paul's dad tried to bring her to the United States but it was blocked by Olivia's mother who had fallen in love with another man.

"She told her lies about my dad and said he was violent and angry, which isn't true," said Trevino.

Eventually Olivia was put up for adoption by her mother and sent to a family in the United States, but as she grew up she always dreamed of meeting her family. She went to her mom for help but was always given the wrong name. Finally on August 27th at 1:20am Olivia received the call she had been waiting 64 year for. Members of Paul's family reached out to her to let her know where her family was and three months later she arrived in Lubbock.

"I keep wondering if all of this is real and if I'm really here. It's a dream," said Olivia.

Olivia walked off the plane and into the waiting arms of Paul and his family at the airport and now she has a lot of catching up to do.
