LUBBOCK, TEXAS - Beginning Monday, Nov. 19, all Lubbock locations of United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos will be serving as drop-off locations for the American Red Cross South Plains Chapter's 2012 "Holiday Mail for Heroes" campaign.
The campaign is a chance for people in the Lubbock area to send holiday greetings to veterans and active members of the U.S. Armed Forces, according to Shannon Smith, executive director of the American Red Cross' North Texas Region.
"Most of our service men and women will not get to come home during the holiday season, and we want to let them know we are thankful for what they do on our behalf, each and every day," Smith said.
The campaign encourages area residents to purchase greeting cards or make them from scratch, sign them and drop them off at any of the nine Lubbock locations of United Supermarkets, Market Street or Amigos through Dec. 3. A special drop-box will be available at the service counter of every store.
The 50th and Indiana location of Market Street will host a kickoff event for the campaign Monday, Nov, 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. Cards will be available free of charge for anyone wanting to drop by and sign one.
