Texas Tech announce 2013 football schedule

From Texas Tech Athletics:

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will open its 2013 football season on the road against former SWC foe SMU and will close the regular-season at rival Texas on Thanksgiving Day, as part of a 12-game schedule announced today by Texas Tech and the Big 12 Conference.

The 2013 schedule remains subject to change as the league has not completed the scheduling of Labor Day and Thursday night games that are part of the new conference television agreement.

"We are very pleased with the 2013 schedule," said Texas Tech Head Coach Tommy Tuberville.  "We will get two off weeks during the season and I think they are at times that could really help us.  Overall, it's a very challenging schedule but that is what you get in the Big 12 Conference."

The Red Raiders will open the season on the road at SMU (Aug. 31), marking the first time since 2007 when Tech took a 49-9 win over the Mustangs on Labor Day.

Following the game at SMU, Tech will return to Jones AT&T Stadium for three consecutive home games against Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 7), TCU (Sept. 14) and Texas State (Sept. 21).

Tech's first road Big 12 game will be on Oct. 5, as the Red Raiders travel to Kansas for a matchup against the Jayhawks at Memorial Stadium.  Tech will return home on Oct. 12 and face Iowa State at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Back-to-back road games at West Virginia (Oct. 19) and Oklahoma (Oct. 26) set the tone for a challenging four-week stretch as Tech will then return home and face Oklahoma State (Nov. 2) and Kansas State (Nov. 9).

Texas Tech and Baylor will faceoff on Nov. 16 but the location of that game has yet to be determined.  Tech's second bye week of the year will follow the Baylor game and will precede Texas Tech's first Thanksgiving Day game against the University of Texas (Nov. 28).

Season ticket information for the 2013 season will be announced in the coming weeks.
