Monday's game between Notre Dame and Alabama is a dream match for the gang at ESPN, the once and future holders of the broadcast rights.
Alabama and Notre Dame stir emotions, a lot of them bad. And that's good if you're trying to attract TV viewers. ESPN is hopeful that Monday's match between the traditional college football powers may be a record-setter.
TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -
This year's Iron Bowl has come and gone and the Crimson Tide has taken the win over the Auburn Tigers.
The game saw Alabama dominate early on. After receiving the ball, the Tide pushed 75 yards down the field in 10 plays for the first score of the game. Eddie Lacy, playing a big part in the drive, got the touchdown with a 2-yard rush at the 11:07 mark. Jeremy Shelley's kick was good.
Alabama scored again on their next possession after another 10-play drive that 61 yards. Several decent passes interspersed with some T.J. Yeldon rushes kept the drive moving down the field. Yeldon got the touchdown with a 2-yard rush with 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Alabama returned to the endzone. Two big plays propelled the Tide down the field in the 6-play drive for 88 yards. Eddie Lacy managed to break free to rush 32 yards to the the Auburn 37 yard line. On the following play, Quarterback A.J. McCarron landed a pass in the arms of Amari Cooper to cover the remaining 37 yards with 12:38 before before the half.
The Tide was able to find three more touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. McCarron landed a pass into the arms of Kevin Norwood for 7 yards and the touchdown around the 8:40 mark. With just under 5 minutes, Eddie Lacy got another touchdown after a 1-yard rush. The last touchdown came after Alabama's Dee Milliner recovered an Auburn fumble and McCarron was able to connect to Amari Cooper for a 29-yard touchdown with 31 seconds remaining in the half. All of Shelley's extra point kicks were good.
Coming back from halftime, McCarron found Kevin Norwood again on a 38-yard pass for another touchdown. This capped off a 7-play drive to cover 61 yards. The extra point brought the score to 49-0 in favor of Alabama. This wrapped up the scoring in the game as both teams went scoreless in the 4th quarter.
Next week, Alabama will go on to play Georgia in the SEC Championship. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
