There's an epidemic in Lubbock that needs to be stopped. It's called synthetic marijuana, but it bears little resemblance to the real thing and is much more dangerous.
This so-called "legal weed" is highly addictive, and among other things can lead to hallucinations, violent psychotic episodes, and suicide.
Oh yeah, and it's available at most corner smoke shops.
You may have seen the story of a Lubbock mom who knows the danger of this stuff all too well. Gina Johnson says her son uses it, and she's had enough. She's taking a stand against this legal weed and taking her fight to City Hall.
Mrs. Johnson is scheduled to speak to City Council members at Thursday night's meeting. In fact, she's expected to call on them to impose an emergency ban on this stuff.
And she's now got support from a national group with the same cause.
So, if you've been affected by the dangers of synthetic marijuana or perhaps even suspect your kids are smoking it, I hope you'll show up tomorrow night at 6:15, at City Hall and show your support for Mrs. Johnson. If you can't make it, e-mail your councilperson and take a stand for our community.
