Tech to face Minnesota in Meineke Car Care Bowl

HOUSTON, TX (KCBD) -

The Texas Tech Red Raiders will be traveling to Houston to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers on December 28 in the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

The Red Raiders finished the season at 7-5 while the Golden Gophers finished with a record of 6-6.

Tickets for Texas Tech's third appearance in the Meineke Car Care Bowl can be purchased immediately at www.texastech.com or by calling the athletics ticket office at (806) 742-8324 (M-F; 8:30-5:30 p.m. CT).  Texas Tech has received an allotment of 12,000 tickets for the game and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets through Tech so that the university receives credit toward this allotment.

"This is an exciting day for Texas Tech University, our football program and Red Raider fans," Kirby Hocutt, Director of Athletics said. "The Meineke Car Care Bowl is an outstanding game and we are thrilled at the opportunity to play in our home state of Texas against a quality opponent like Minnesota."

"We are excited to accept an invitation to play in the Meineke Car Care Bowl," Texas Tech Head Football Coach Tommy Tuberville remarked. "The opportunity to play another game in Texas is huge for our team, our fans and for recruiting.  Minnesota is a talented football team and we will have our hands full the next couple of weeks in our preparations."

Game day festivities will commence at 4 p.m. with the TexFest Pregame Festival on the Bud Plaza outside Reliant Stadium. Kickoff for the 2012 Meineke Car Care Bowl is set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN.
