Captain Derrick McPherson was indicted last Thursday on charges of assaulting another officer. The alleged assault took place while arresting a suspect who was combative.
McPherson denies the charge and will continue to be employed while the city evaluates his responsibilities.
He has been with the police department in Hale County for 18 years.
