I would be remiss if I didn't dedicate some time here this week to talk about Tommy Tuberville's abrupt departure from Texas Tech.
It was a surprise even for athletic director Kirby Hocutt, but perhaps a welcome one to the community that Tubbs never quite won over.
First of all, it's hard to win over a fan base after two seasons and only winning 9 out of 26 conference games.
Second, it's hard to win over a fan base that still holds some loyalty to your predecessor.
And finally, Tubbs left no doubt he had little loyalty to Lubbock when, just the day before he left, he affirmed to his boss his commitment and dedication to the Red and Black.
Let's face it. Although most of us gave him the benefit of the doubt, there were those that suspected he really never wanted to be here.
I think we all realize that we really don't want a coach that has no loyalty to Texas Tech and doesn't want to live in Lubbock.
What we need to do going forward is find someone who does. In this case, I completely agree with athletic director Kirby Hocutt. We need someone that truly has a passion for Tech and loyalty to Lubbock.
And Tuberville's departure has given us a chance to find just that guy.
