18-year-olds can now get tattoos in Lubbock without parental permission.
On Thursday, city council members passed a new tattoo and body piercing ordinance. The ordinance lowers the age at which a person can get a tattoo or body piercing without parental approval to 18. However, the ordinance bans tongue-splitting and surgical body modification, and outlaws temporary tattoo and body piercing locations.
In other city council news from Thursday, members elected Councilman Tom Martin, mayor pro-tempore. Martin replaces T.J. Patterson, who lost his re-election bid.
