LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

You may have a heard about a routine traffic stop before, but an incident that happened around 4:00 p.m. today proved anything but routine.

According to Sergeant Ronnie Roan, an officer pulled a man over for a traffic violation near 66th and Avenue Q. The officer asked the man to step out of the car and attempted to pat him down when the man suddenly took off running.

Eye-witnesses tells us two officers tased a man who resisted arrest multiple times.  The police discovered the suspect was carrying a gun when it fell to the ground during the altercation.

After the man was tased, he was arrested and taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The police officer was also rushed to the hospital for a non-life threatening leg injury.

Sergeant Roan says the suspect will face multiple charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

He also believes the suspect could possibly be a convicted felon.

Police have not released the name of the suspect or the injured officer at this time.
