National champion Alabama will face Louisville in ABC's first Saturday Night Football game, and Miami plays LSU on Sunday night of the season-opening weekend.

MIAMI (RNN) - There's no doubt about it. Alabama is a college football dynasty. Ask Notre Dame.

The Crimson Tide won its second straight national championship, its third in four years and made it look easy, stomping previously undefeated Notre Dame 42-14.

Alabama coach Nick Saban, who is notoriously hard to satisfy, said he was happy for the team, though he said though a smile that he was miffed that his team got outscored 14-7 after building a 35-0 lead.

"The offense did a great job," he said. "They controlled the whole tempo of the game. We didn't finish very well on defense, but we did well early, so I'm happy with the team win."

He said as a coach, he was glad he was able to put the players in this position to win the championship.

"I'm proud of these guys and their legacy as a team. Ten or 20 years from now they can say they won the national championship," he said.

The expected low-scoring struggle between Alabama's power running game and Notre Dame's run-tough defense never developed. Notre Dame was allowing 140 yards rushing per game - MVP Eddie Lacy got that many by himself and Bama's other running back T.J. Yeldon, topped 100, as the team piled up 502 total yards.

Lacy said he was a little surprised that he was able to run so easily on the Irish defense.

"The offensive line got great push opened up great holes and I was able to be successful running the ball," he said.

Alabama dominated, confused and destroyed the Fighting Irish defense, which entered the game allowing only 10.3 points per game and leading multiple statistical categories.

The Irish offense was all but helpless against Alabama's defense and didn't score until the third period after Alabama led 35-0 and the game was over.

"We pride ourselves on stopping the run and on third down getting off the field," said defensive MVP C.J. Mosley, who led the effort that held Notre Dame to only 37 yards rushing and 196 passing, most of that late in the game.

The Crimson Tide scored on its first three drives, led 28-0 at half, then marched 98 yards to make it 35-0 early in the second half.

AJ McCarron, who became the first college QB ever to lead his team to two straight national titles, threw four touchdown passes and hit 20-of-27 passes for 264 yards.

"It gives me chills to think about it," he said of winning two straight championships.

Alabama mounted four scoring drives of more than 80 yards against a defense that had not allowed a drive of more than 77 yards all year. The Irish had allowed two rushing touchdowns all year - Alabama had that many four seconds into the second quarter.

Alabama shut out LSU 21-0, and though the defense couldn't manage a shutout this year, the Crimson Tide had outscored opponents 56-0 in championship play before Notre Dame made it to the end zone.
