An update on the flu, and now more evidence that it is the worst this nation has seen in years. In Boston, where there are now 700 confirmed cases, the mayor has declared a state of emergency. The flu shots there are now free. A hospital near Allentown, Pennsylvania has set up a tent outside the emergency room to triage flu patients. Doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, say they are seeing more patients now than they did during the peak of the H1N1 epidemic.
While the majority of patients will eventually recover, there have been deaths. Most recently, six year-old Tahila Johnson from Garland, Texas.
Tahila's father, Earl Johnson, said, "She was a daddy's girl, like I don't know what to do, it's like my heart is gone now."
Meanwhile, the CDC says the death toll from the flu now includes two other children...a five year old boy in Nebraska and a fourteen year old girl in Minnesota.
