Lamesa celebrates Battle of the Bands Championship

After beating 31 other schools from October to December to win the Battle of the Bands contest on KCBD.com, the Lamesa Golden Tornado Band received their Championship Trophy and $3,000 Grand Prize at a ceremony Monday.

Pete Christy present the trophy and check to the band and Lamesa Mayor Dave Nix read a proclamation to honor the GT band.

"On a scale of 1 to 10, this is about a 16!" said Band Director Doug Morris.  "For a town of 9,000 people to pull together and get the votes we did, you can see the support we get. We have amazing kids, amazing administrators. It's a great town to be in."

Lamesa, who beat Idalou, Lubbock Christian and Sudan in the finals, plans to use the money for an overnight band camp in August.

The Battle of the Bands was sponsored by South Plains College and Sonic.
