There's a new concern about smokers and bladder cancer. Researchers have long known that smoking is a risk factor for that cancer. New evidence shows that it not only raises the risk, but that smokers are more likely to develop a more aggressive form of the disease. Researchers analyzed bladder tumors from over 200 patients, and found cancers among heavy smokers were more likely to be deadly than cancers in those who smoked infrequently or not at all. The benefit of this kind of research is that it could help doctors identify patients who will need aggressive treatment.
