Guess how long the average cough lasts?  If you guessed a week, well that's what most people think according to a new study out of the University of Georgia.  That study found the number of days a cough lingers is instead on average of about 17 days or two and a half weeks.  Researchers say if patients understand that a cough will likely take this long to run its course, there would be less misuse of antibiotics since studies have shown that antibiotics don't work in a majority of the cases anyway.
