Lockdown at several Lubbock-Cooper campuses Wednesday

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock-Cooper ISD ordered a lock down at several campuses this afternoon.

Around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Lubbock-Cooper police officers assisted DPS officers in the apprehension of two suspects who fled during a routine traffic stop near the intersection of Loop 493 and Woodrow Road.

Because of this close proximity to several campuses, central administration ordered a lockdown for Lubbock-Cooper High School, Lubbock-Cooper Middle School, South Elementary, Special Ed, the Administration Office and all annexes.  

The suspect was apprehended approximately 5 minutes later and the lockdown was lifted.

According to Lubbock-Cooper ISD representatives, neither students nor faculty members were in danger. The lock down was a routine response to a possible hostile situation near their campuses. 

Update: KCBD NewsChannel 11 has just learned that the 2 men who were apprehended by police near Lubbock-Cooper campuses were also involved in the chase that resulted in a car wreck on 82nd and Quaker.

It is unclear if these men were dropped off by the car that was running from police but they were involved in the chase, which continued for about 10 more minutes after they left the vehicle. A single suspect was in the vehicle when it crashed at 82nd and Quaker.
