What do you do if a mosquito lands on you? Don't smash it.
That's the advice from a report in this month's New England Journal of Medicine. Researchers have decided that the mosquito that's about to feast on you may have just picked up an infection from someone else in a blood meal earlier, and they say it's possible that when you smash it you could spread infections from the insect into your own skin.
The same advice goes for ticks. Doctors have long cautioned that smashing a tick on the skin could put a person at greater risk of Lyme Disease.
