Darton softball reloads for next year

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

One reason why the Darton College softball program has winning seasons is the fact head coach David Dews is always looking ahead.

Two weeks before the 2013 season starts, David Dews signed eight players who will be a big part of his team next year.

The signing class is led by pitchers Katelynn Johnson from Deland Florida, Jamie Daniels from Pike County and Lowndes High's Tiffany Bishop.

Bishop's older sister played for Darton two years ago.

Her Lowndes teammate outfielder Kendall Holland also is coming to Darton with Jordan Allen, Nicole McInereny, Lexie Pigott and Hartley Busby.

These eight players want to continue the winning tradition for a Lady Cavalier team that has made two trips to the National Junior College World Series.

"It definitely helps when you are recruiting these high profile athletes. Just just the message and what we are about means more to them than the success we have had," said head coach David Dews.

"I saw it pushed her more when she was here. She started to love the game more and I hope it has the same effect on me," said Tiffany Bishop.

The Darton softball team opens the 2013 season January 31 at home against Andrew College.
