COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) - South Carolina has a new defensive line coach in place before Florida could even announce its hire. Former North Carolina assistant Deke Adams is the new defensive line coach at South Carolina replacing Brad Lawing, who left to take a similar position with the Gators on Sunday afternoon.

The hire of Adams came quickly, about 36 hours after Lawing landed in Gainesville, Fla. for his new position.

Adams served for one season at North Carolina under head coach Larry Fedora. He followed Fedora from Southern Mississippi to UNC after serving for three seasons on the Golden Eagles' staff.

Last year, in his first year at UNC, the Tar Heels allowed 142.7 yards per game rushing the football and gave up 3.6 yards per carry. Defensive tackle Sylvester Williams was selected to the All-ACC team with 42 tackles, 13.5 tackles for a loss, and six sacks.

In 2011, Southern Miss allowed only 112.6 yards per game in rushing, which was good for 22nd in the country. The Golden Eagles ranked second in total defense that season and end Cordarro Law was named first-team All-Conference USA.

Contract figures are not currently known for Adams. Lawing made $300,000 in total compensation for the 2012 season and was scheduled to make $315,000 in 2013.
