One dead in Seminole standoff

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The man who caused a police standoff in Seminole Tuesday has been identified as Jay Brooks, 48. 

The incident began as a domestic dispute around 5 p.m. today, at a home in the 600 block of S.W. 16th St.

A couple had been fighting and the wife was coming to the house to gather some belongings. When she entered the residence Brooks, her husband had a gun pointed at her. She fled from the house and shortly after an officer heard a gunshot coming from inside the residence. The officer pulled the woman to safety as police began to surround the residence.

Officers made numerous attempts to make contact with Brooks, with no response. At approximately 6:53 p.m., they entered the residence and found him dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

The Seminole Police Department and the Texas Rangers are completing this investigation.
