Mayor Robertson on the mend; Gibson assumes duties of office

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The City Manager reports that Mayor Glen Robertson continues recovering from heart bypass surgery at Covenant Hospital Wednesday morning. 

Mayor Pro Tem Karen Gibson will assume the responsibilities of mayor during his recovery.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Mayor Robertson and his family," said Councilwoman Gibson. "We wish him a speedy recovery."

Gibson will be leading the City Council in some high-profile agenda items, such as the proposed synthetic marijuana ban. She states that her goal is to meet with Mayor Robertson prior to the vote to get his thoughts and ideas.

Gibson has assured us that she and the rest of the council members are working their hardest to make these items a priority for the city of Lubbock.

Update: Mayor Glen Robertson has completed his surgery and should be able to go home this weekend. Earlier today, he expressed thanks for the community's thoughts and prayers, as well as the kind offers of support to his family. He had a especially thanked Mayor Pro-Tem, Karen Gibson for serving the community as mayor in his absence.
