Three children were transported to the hospital Thursday after a school bus was struck by a van near Willow Bend Elementary School, 8816 13th St. in Lubbock.
According to Andy Penny with Frenship ISD, the school bus was en route to the elementary school when a car backed out of its driveway and hit the bus's front right tire at a low rate of speed. No damage was done to the vehicles and police were not called to investigate
The driver asked if everyone was ok, and the students said yes, Penny said. The bus continued on its route, and once the bus got to the campus a student complained of a headache. That's when school staff called EMS as a precaution.
Three children were taken to the hospital and one was picked up by parents. An 8-year-old and a 10-year-old were taken to UMC to be checked out. Another child was taken to Covenant Women's and Children's to be checked out.
KCBD will bring you updates on the children's conditions as they become available.
