Don Long steps down in Idalou

IDALOU, TX (KCBD) -

Some surprising news out of Idalou. Wildcat football coach Don Long tells KCBD NewsChannel 11's Pete Christy that he has stepped down to become the Defensive Coordinator at Andrews.

Long went 18-5 in 2 years leading Idalou after taking over for longtime coach Johnny Taylor.

Prior to that Long was the defensive coordinator at Idalou as their stingy defense helped the Wildcats win the State Title in 2010.

Long has been in Idalou for 24 seasons but will join the staff of his good friend Ralph Mason at Andrews.

Pete Christy talked to Johnny Taylor and he says he is not interested in coming out of retirement and returning as he is enjoying time with his grandkids.
