Texas Tech was riding high after Wednesday's surprising victory over Iowa State, but they failed to continue the momentum in Austin, where the Red Raiders fell to Texas, 73-57.
The loss moves Texas Tech's record to 9-9 overall and 2-5 in the Big 12, while the Longhorns garnered their first league win of the season. Texas is now 1-5 in the Big 12 and 9-10 on the season.
The Red Raiders were never much of a factor in this one as Texas was in control from the opening tip. Texas Tech shot just 37 percent from the floor and turned the ball over a staggering 19 times. Texas connected on 46 percent of its shots and turned the ball over only 10 times. The Longhorns led at the half 35-24 and extended their lead up to 19 before securing the 16-point win.
A bright spot for Texas Tech was the continued good play of Jordan Tolbert, who led the way for Tech with a double-double, 18 points and 13 rebounds. Dusty Hannahs was the only other double digit scorer for the Red Raiders with 10.
The Red Raiders don't play again until next Saturday, when they host West Virginia (9-10, 2-4) at 2 p.m. at United Spirit Arena.
