The future of Lubbock Power & Light will be up to Lubbock voters.
Wednesday, city council members approved the first reading of an ordinance that creates an election on November 2nd. On that day, you will be asked to amend the city charter and take the operational power of LP&L away from city management and give it to an independent board.
"This move is intended to take first of all, LP&L out of politics and be run as a real business. Number two, it's also designed to keep city administrators and councils in the future from the mistakes of the last ten years," said city councilman Tom Martin.
Again, the election would be November 2nd.
