Two New Mexico State Police officers are recovering in a Lubbock hospital Wednesday after stormy weather over night.
Officer Lance Bateman says he and Officer Clint Varnell had helped two women and three small children from a vehicle last night, when they were struck by lightning. Bateman says he was knocked off his feet, but both men continued to work for two hours before going to a Portales hospital.
The two officers were transferred to Covenant Medical Center, where they are listed in stable condition.
