Truck collides with Slaton ISD school bus

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Emergency crews were called out to the intersection of Hwy 84 and County Road 3100 around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, when a school bus collided with a truck. According to DPS, the Slaton ISD bus was carrying 13 students when it was trying to turn left onto 84 off of CR 3100.

DPS says the driver of the bus, 48-year-old David Cruz told officers he never saw the truck heading east when he hit it broadside. The truck was carrying two men, who were taken to Covenant with minor injuries and were later released.

Three children, ages 6, 8 and 14 were transported to UMC after the accident and one child was taken by his parents. Thankfully, all four children were released not long after they arrived.

Slaton ISD administrators arrived on the scene just minutes after the collision and parents were notified immediately.

David Cruz is being cited for failure to yield to a stop sign.
