The gas leak at University Avenue and Glenna Goodacre Blvd has now been shut off and repairs are underway. No immediate hazards remain at this time, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Robert Loveless.
Streets, electrical utilities and local businesses will be cleared to reopen soon, Loveless said.
Crews are testing buildings for any potential gas build up before letting occupants back in. Final repairs could take several hours.
