Training a better workforce. That was the theme of Senator John Cornyn's visit to West Texas on Monday.
Senator Cornyn toured the Smith South Plains Ford Lincoln Mercury dealership in Slaton on Monday. There, students are learning important job training skills through workforce training partnerships.
The project is a collaboration amongst Slaton ISD, South Plains College, Texas Tech, and Work Source of the South Plains. Cornyn says it's important these students stay in the area.
"If people find good, high quality jobs where they live, they're going to stay here, which is good for economic development. You hate to see the brain drain when people grow up here and leave because they can't find good work here," says Cornyn.
Senator Cornyn has traveled across the state promoting job training partnerships this year.
