Buckner invites Lubbock community to collect Shoes for Orphan Souls

Provided by Buckner

Buckner International's Shoes for Orphan Souls project invites the Lubbock community to collect new shoes for vulnerable children during the month of February. Businesses, churches, organizations and schools are invited to join the cause by registering to host a shoe drive or become a drop-off location at www.buckner.org/shoes.

"Shoes are foundational to good health and are required for children to attend school in the United States and in many countries around the world," said Ashley Williamson, coordinator for Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls. "We believe the simple gift of a new pair of shoes can help transform a child's life, giving them the best possible chance to succeed."

All sizes and types of new shoes are accepted, but the greatest need is for athletic or canvas shoes, sizes Youth 1 - Adult 8. Individuals can drop off new shoes at partner businesses and organizations including: McDougal Properties, Wells Fargo, First Baptist Church Lubbock, Firestone, South Plains Electric Cooperative, Bodyworks and the Texas Tech Athletic Department. To find a complete list of drop-off locations, click here <http://www.shoesfororphansouls.org/host-dropoff.shtml>.

The Texas Tech Athletic Department is also offering two free tickets to individuals who bring a pair of new shoes to the Texas Tech vs. TCU Men's Basketball game on Saturday, March 2. The game begins at 3 p.m. and donations will be accepted from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. at United Spirit Arena.

Since 1958, Buckner has been transforming the lives of children and families in Lubbock through foster care and adoption, transition programs for young adults, and self-sufficiency programs for single moms at My Father's House Lubbock. The new shoes collected will benefit children in these programs as well as children served by Buckner in the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, Mexico, Peru and Russia.
